Phase Two Of South Beach Diet

 

South Beach diet has taken the world by a storm, especially for the people who want to lose weight. Developed by Dr Arthur Agatston, a practicing cardiologist, it is considered to be an improvement over the Atkins diet and low carb-high fat diet. The South beach diet consists of three phases and every phase has its distinct meal plans and recipes. The key principal of this diet is to plan for eating the right carbohydrates and fats. The phase one of the South beach diet is the most difficult to follow since it involves giving up most of the favorite foods. It is supposed to last for about two weeks and then the phase two begins. In the second phase, all the foods that were restricted in the phase one are reintroduced. And this is the time when there is maximum possibility of dieters going away from the diet plan. It is therefore important to understand the principals behind the second phase of the diet.

The second phase of South beach diet calls for reintroducing all the food products that were restricted in the phase one. It includes the fruits and whole grains. However, it is important to understand that these foods should be reintroduced in moderation. One should not overindulge at this stage. This phase is also known as the steady weight loss phase and the dieters in this phase should be losing one to two pounds of weight per week. The other important point to be noticed here is that there is no defined time period for this phase. This phase is supposed to end when the dieter has achieved his target of losing the desired amount of weight. And since the body mechanism of each one of us is different, the time taken to reach the ideal weight will vary from one person to the other. Hence it is important to stick to the diet plan till the time one reaches the targeted weight. If a person wants to lose twenty five pounds to reach the targeted weight, it would take a person about seven to fifteen weeks to reach this goal. This is after taking into account the fact that a person would have already lost about ten pounds in the phase one of the diet.

 

One should not get disheartened if the phase two seems to last an eternity. The good news is that since a dieter would already have spent about two weeks on a restricted diet in phase one, the perspective of the dieter towards food would have changed. And this would help him to continue with the diet plan.
